The Dycor Open Ion Source ionizer offers simplicity of design, construction, and maintenance. This is the most cost effective ion source selection, and is manufactured of stainless steel and platinum, suitable for UHV environments.  This source type provides the best sensitivity at very low pressures, typically below 10-4 torr.  Because of the excellent sensitivity at low operating pressures, an open source ionizer is often employed in leak detection applications. 

The Enclosed Source instrument is designed for CVD processes (and other processes where reactive gases are present) and gas analysis where the gas sample is near or above atmospheric pressure.  The primary benefit of this source design is that it eliminates ion-molecule reactions in the source region that occur when reactive gases are introduced at relatively high pressures to the ion volume.
